Two SF-260 trainer aircraft operated by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) collided midair during a flight exercise at San Fernando Air Base on Friday afternoon.
The Air Force confirmed that the incident occurred at 3:51 p.m. within base premises in Lipa City, Batangas. While military spokespersons did not formally detail the collision mechanics, a military official speaking on condition of anonymity confirmed that the two aircraft made contact in flight.
PAF spokesperson Col. Alvin Jay Capinguian refrained from confirming the condition of the pilots or providing details on the extent of structural damage.
“Immediate response measures were activated upon the occurrence of the incident,” Capinguian said.
“Our primary priority remains the safety and welfare of the personnel involved, as well as the individuals within the vicinity of the incident site,” Capinguian added.
Capinguian noted that emergency response teams were immediately deployed “to secure the area and conduct initial assessments” as an investigation into the cause of the mishap gets underway.
