Senate Resolution Seeks Recognition for Team PH’s Historic Asian Beach Games Finish

The Philippine delegation to the Asian Beach Games is set to receive the Senate’s highest commendation following its historic fifth-place finish, its best performance ever in the competition.

A resolution filed in the Senate by Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada recognizes the achievements of the 101-member contingent, which surged from 17th place in 2016 to rank among the top five nations, trailing only China, Thailand, Iran, and Vietnam.

The biennial event, held from April 22 to 30 in Sanya, China under the Olympic Council of Asia, brought together more than 1,600 athletes from 45 countries competing in various beach and water-based disciplines.

Team Philippines delivered a strong showing with a total of nine medals—three gold, four silver, and two bronzes–highlighting the country’s growing competitiveness in non-traditional sports.

Among the gold medalists were Leonard Grospe in men’s high jump, Annie Ramirez in women’s 57-kg and Alexandria Luz Enriquez in women’s 63-kg events in jiu-jitsu. The Gilas Pilipinas Women also secured a silver medal in the 3×3 basketball competition.

Additional podium finishes came from windsurfing, jiu-jitsu, and athletics, with standout performances from both individual athletes and relay teams contributing to the country’s overall ranking.

Lawmakers noted that the milestone reflects years of sustained effort by Filipino athletes and underscores the impact of continued investment in sports development programs. The recognition aims to honor not only the medalists but the entire delegation for elevating the Philippines’ standing in this regional competition.
