Suspected explosive remnants were discovered on a taxiway within the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) complex in Pasay City, prompting authorities to secure the area and ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel.

Airport security personnel immediately isolated the section, while the Philippine National Police (PNP), through its Aviation Security Group Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and K9 Unit, responded to assess and clear the site.

According to the PNP, the operation was carried out under its Focused Agenda on enhanced police operations, with emphasis on safeguarding critical infrastructure as part of the government’s broader security priorities under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Upon assessment, EOD personnel confirmed that the items recovered were six 50-pound general-purpose bombs, all found to be inert and heavily corroded. Further clearing operations in the surrounding area led to the discovery of additional materials, including four more 50-pound bombs and 18 25-pound bombs, which were also verified to be inactive and no longer posed any explosive threat.

All recovered ordnance was secured and transported to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (AVSECU) Headquarters for proper documentation and safekeeping. The operation was completed at around 2:50 p.m. without disrupting airport operations or causing harm to the public.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the swift response of EOD and airport security teams, stressing the importance of immediate action when potential threats are reported.

He said the incident highlights the need for readiness and coordination, noting that all reports of possible danger are treated with urgency to ensure public safety.

The PNP reiterated its commitment to continuous security monitoring of key facilities, including airports and other critical installations, as part of its mandate to prevent risks and protect communities nationwide.

Authorities assured the public that proactive security measures remain in place to maintain safety and prevent potential threats from escalating.
