Gloc-9 has no interest in finding the next Gloc-9

In an industry constantly searching for the next big name, Gloc-9 has a different idea: perhaps the next generation doesn’t need another Gloc-9 at all.

The Filipino rap veteran, whose real name is Aristotle Pollisco, believes younger artists should be allowed to establish their own identities rather than spend their careers living up to someone else’s reputation.

Speaking during the October 23 launch of his vinyl compilation, Mga Ani ni Gloc-9, the rapper made it clear that he does not view emerging musicians as competition.

Instead, he welcomes their success and the opportunities now available to them.

For an artist whose career spans nearly three decades, the distinction matters. Musical influence can inspire a new generation, but it should not become a template everyone is expected to follow.

Gloc-9 also shared advice that had little to do with fame or streaming numbers. He emphasized professionalism, punctuality, preparation, and giving audiences a worthwhile performance regardless of the paycheck.

His remarks accompanied the release of Mga Ani ni Gloc-9, an 11-track vinyl collection featuring familiar songs including “Sirena,” “Magda,” “Upuan,” and “Bagsakan.”

The compilation revisits a career built on storytelling, social observation, and songs that have resonated with Filipino listeners across generations.

But even as he celebrates his own musical journey, Gloc-9 appears more interested in seeing what younger artists can contribute than in measuring how closely they resemble him.

After all, a musical legacy doesn’t have to produce a copy. Sometimes, its greatest achievement is inspiring something completely different.
