The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving two students at a private school in Barangay Lunzuran, Zamboanga City, on Tuesday morning.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 7:50 a.m. Initial findings identify the alleged shooter as a Grade 9 student, while a Grade 10 student was among those affected.
Authorities are withholding the personal details and identities of the students due to their age and privacy protections.
Investigating units are verifying reports regarding how firearms were brought onto campus, while also determining the ownership, legal status and exact circumstances surrounding their use. Responding officers secured the school premises as the Regional Forensic Unit 9–Scene of the Crime Operations (RFU9-SOCO) processed the crime scene alongside parallel investigative teams.
PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. directed all involved units to ensure an evidence-based inquiry while safeguarding the rights and welfare of the involved minors and their families.
“Ang prayoridad natin ngayon ay maayos nating malaman ang buong pangyayari at mapanatiling maingat ang ating imbestigasyon. We will follow the facts, coordinate with the concerned authorities, and respect the privacy of the students and their families. Let us allow the proper process to take its course,” Nartatez said.
The PNP emphasized that cases involving minors demand a measured response that balances public safety with the rights of the individuals involved. As coordination with local authorities regarding campus security and firearm regulation continues, police strongly urge the public to refrain from circulating unverified details, photos or videos of the minors online.
