Manila Logs 33 New Flu-Like Cases as Habagat Rains Persist

  • August 31, 2026

The Manila local government recorded 33 new cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) on Monday, August 31, amid persistent rains and localized flooding brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat).

Data released by the city’s Public Information Office (PIO) through its latest WILD diseases report brought the total number of ILI cases in the capital to 1,203 since the start of the year.

The acronym W.I.L.D. refers to weather-related health risks that typically surge during the rainy season: water-borne diseases, influenza, leptospirosis and dengue.

In addition to flu-like symptoms, health authorities logged 24 new dengue cases, pushing the city’s cumulative total to 2,541. Four new leptospirosis infections were also reported, raising its total to 556 cases.

No new cases were recorded for other monitored conditions, including cholera, typhoid fever, COVID-19, and severe acute respiratory infections.

The Manila PIO urged residents to practice proper hygiene, avoid wading through floodwaters whenever possible and seek immediate medical evaluation at nearby health centers if symptoms develop.
