The Philippine National Police uncovered a concealed cache of firearms and explosive materials in Barangay Capalutan, Allacapan, Cagayan, following information voluntarily provided by a peace advocate.
The PNP said the operation prevented the weapons from potentially being used in criminal and other unlawful activities and highlighted the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace and public safety.
Personnel of the 2nd Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company, supported by other operating units, conducted the operation after a peace advocate identified only as “Doming” disclosed the location of the hidden weapons and explosives to a member of the unit’s Company Advisory Group.
According to the PNP, Doming decided to cooperate with the government after experiencing positive changes and receiving assistance through reintegration and livelihood programs for former rebels.
The recovery resulted from the continued implementation of Project INVINCIBLE, or Innovation for Nurturing Hope and Valuing Every Friend’s Rescued and Integration into Society for New Beginnings; Collaboration with Government Agencies to Instill Discipline and Build Community Partnerships; and Leadership with Integrity to Empower for Lasting Peace and Transformation.
Police personnel were conducting validation and community engagements related to government assistance and livelihood opportunities for peace advocates when they confirmed the information and located the concealed cache.
Recovered from the site were a .38-caliber revolver, an improvised shotgun, an improvised .22-caliber firearm, 40mm high-explosive cartridges, a rifle grenade, a hand grenade, blasting caps, components of an improvised explosive device, and other related materials.
The recovered evidence was turned over to the Allacapan Municipal Police Station for documentation, inventory, and legal disposition. The explosive components were handled in accordance with established safety protocols.
“Removing loose firearms and explosives from communities is one of the most effective ways to prevent violence and protect innocent lives. This accomplishment reflects the impact of sustained police presence, community trust, and the willingness of individuals to choose peace over conflict,” PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said.
