LRT-2 Now Accepts Tap-to-Pay Bank Cards, Mobile Wallets

Passengers can now pay for LRT-2 rides using contactless bank cards and compatible mobile wallets at all 13 stations of the rail line.

The upgraded fare system allows commuters to tap eligible Visa or Mastercard credit, debit or prepaid cards at designated gates without buying or reloading a stored-value ticket.

NFC-enabled mobile devices linked to supported cards are also accepted, along with GCash Commute QR and other available digital payment options.

Mastercard said cardholders may use designated Fast Lanes, helping reduce queues and waiting time at stations.

The rollout was carried out by the Department of Transportation, Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., payment networks and other industry partners as part of efforts to modernize fare collection.

Visa said LRT-2 is its fourth cashless public transport deployment in the Philippines, following similar systems on MRT-3 and selected bus networks in Cebu, Mandaue and Bacolod.

More than 160,000 passengers use LRT-2 daily, according to Visa.

Transportation authorities said the system is intended to make fare payments faster and more convenient while reducing reliance on cash.

The rollout also forms part of Metro Manila’s broader shift toward open-loop digital fare collection across its railway network.
