AWS Plans US$5B Philippine Investment to Expand Digital Infrastructure

Amazon Web Services is eyeing a US$5-billion investment in the Philippines over the next 15 years to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and support faster, safer, and more reliable cloud services.

AWS executives presented the proposed investment to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during a courtesy call in Malacañang on Wednesday. The delegation was led by Quint Simon, AWS vice president for Public Policy for Asia-Pacific, and Precious Lim, AWS country manager.

The Presidential Communications Office said the planned investment is expected to support the Philippines’ digital innovation efforts and help prepare the country for future technology demands.

“If realized, the proposed investment could bring up to US$5 billion over the next 15 years, strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure, create thousands of high-value jobs, and provide Filipino businesses, startups, and government agencies with faster, more secure, and more reliable cloud services,” the PCO said.

Malacañang said the proposed AWS investment is aligned with the Marcos administration’s digital transformation agenda and the government’s goal of positioning the Philippines as a regional hub for digital infrastructure.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos welcomed the proposed investment, which is also expected to generate more employment opportunities for Filipinos.

“Tinanggap ng Pangulo ngayong araw ang mga kinatawan ng Amazon Web Services sa isang courtesy call sa Malacañang. Tumungo sa Palasyo ang nasabing kumpanya upang ipresenta sa Pangulo ang kanilang iminumungkahing Digital Infrastructure Investment sa bansa na inaasahan namang magpapalakas sa digital transformation initiatives ng Pilipinas,” Castro said.

Also present during the meeting were Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, Trade Secretary Cristina Roque, and Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda.
