House Prosecutors Seek Subpoenas for Next Duterte Impeachment Witnesses

The House prosecution panel is seeking subpoenas for the next witnesses it plans to present in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The panel is asking the Senate impeachment court to summon National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Regional Director Atty. Jeremy Lotoc on Monday, July 13; Office of the Vice President Chief of Staff Atty. Zuleika Lopez on Tuesday, July 14; and House of Representatives Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms Legislative Security Bureau Executive Director Capt. Belinda Bello on July 15.

The three witnesses are expected to testify on Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment, which covers the alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

The prosecution earlier presented NBI Senior Agent John Mark Calilung as its first witness during the second and third days of the impeachment trial.

Calilung testified on the NBI’s investigation into the alleged grave threats and the authentication of the video statement attributed to Duterte.

The House prosecution panel said the next set of witnesses will form part of its continuing presentation of evidence under Article IV.
