Grab Taps EV Charging Firms to Lower Driver Costs, Expand Access

Grab Philippines has partnered with electric vehicle charging operators ACMobility and EVOxCharge to expand charging access and cut costs for electric taxi and transport network vehicle service driver-partners on its platform.

The company said GrabTaxi Electric and GrabCar Electric operators and driver-partners will be able to use preferential charging rates across a combined network of more than 600 chargers. Grab said the partnerships could reduce driver charging costs by up to 45 percent.

The initiative aims to address two major barriers to wider EV adoption among transport workers: the availability of charging stations and the cost of charging.

“Sustainability can no longer be treated as just a green movement. For us, it has become a kabuhayan commitment,” Grab Financial Group Philippines Country Head CJ Lacsican said.

“Through these partnerships, we are building the support system needed for more drivers to confidently consider electrification — not only as a cleaner transport choice, but as a livelihood resilience strategy amid the volatile fuel market,” he added.

Lacsican said the broader goal is to protect the livelihood of transport professionals while supporting the daily mobility needs of communities.

Under Grab’s partnership with ACMobility, driver-partners will gain access to ChargeFleet, a digital fleet management platform that allows drivers and fleet operators to disburse, monitor, and manage EV charging credits more efficiently.

Grab said the platform is designed to make shift changes smoother, improve vehicle uptime, and reduce administrative work for EV fleet operators.

ChargeFleet is integrated into the Evro app, which allows EV drivers to locate ACMobility’s network of more than 500 charging points nationwide. These are located in fuel stations, malls, hotels, retail establishments, and office and residential buildings.

The app also provides access to charge points accredited by the Department of Energy, helping EV drivers better plan their charging schedules.

EVOxCharge, meanwhile, operates more than 130 charge points, led by its flagship hub at TDG InHub in Taguig and supported by retail locations at SM and S&R.

Grab said EVOxCharge offers both destination charging and high-turnaround infrastructure for rapid, en-route charging. Its xCharge+ platform also provides integrated fleet solutions to help Grab and its partners simplify daily operations and driver management.

Carla Buencamino, head of Mobility Infrastructure at ACMobility, said ChargeFleet seeks to support Grab’s shift to electric vehicles by making EV taxi operations more efficient and cost-effective.

“This solution makes EV taxi operations more efficient while reducing costs. Through this partnership, we are building an ecosystem that supports cleaner mobility and the livelihood of drivers who keep our cities moving,” Buencamino said.

EVOxCharge Vice President and General Manager Derrick Tolentino said the company is committed to supporting the country’s EV transition by expanding access to convenient and cost-effective charging solutions.

“Our track record in powering high-demand commercial fleets has given us first-hand insight into what it takes to keep professional drivers moving,” Tolentino said.

“By working with Grab, we are bringing that specialized expertise directly to taxi and ride-hailing partners whose daily operations stand to gain the most from lower energy costs,” he added.
