Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. paid tribute to the nation’s heroes on Monday, calling on Filipinos to keep the spirit of patriotism alive as the Department of National Defense (DND) joined the nationwide commemoration of National Heroes’ Day.
In his message, Teodoro highlighted the enduring legacy of the martyrs and patriots who fought for the country’s sovereignty and freedom, emphasizing that their sacrifices must continue to guide the nation today.
“On this day, we wholeheartedly recognize the courage and love for the country shown by the heroes who stood up, defended, and sacrificed their lives to achieve Philippine independence,” Teodoro said in Filipino.
He urged the public to draw strength from history as the country continues to navigate modern challenges, both security and societal.
“Although many decades have passed, may their sacrifices remain alive in our memories and serve as an inspiration to face the challenges of the present,” Teodoro added.
Reaffirming the mandate of the defense sector, the DND chief assured the public that the military and defense establishments will remain unwavering in their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, stability and peaceful way of life.
“This is our sacred obligation not only to our ancestors, but also to future generations,” Teodoro declared, pledging that the defense establishment will continue to be a steadfast guardian of the nation’s freedom and peace.
