Marcos Says Regional Wage Hike Decisions May Come by September or October

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said the Regional Tripartite Wage Boards are still studying possible wage adjustments in their respective areas, with recommendations expected by September or October.

Speaking at the launch of the School-Based Feeding Program in Pulilan, Bulacan, Marcos said the RTWBs are reviewing commodity prices and economic conditions in each region to determine whether current wage rates remain appropriate or need adjustment.

“Ang tripartire wage board, sa regional tripartite wage board patuloy yan, hindi tumitigil yan, patuloy na tinitignan at inaaral kung ano ba ang talagang presyuhan doon sa bawat region para malagay na tama ang ating wage rate kung kailangan ng wage hike (the Tripartite Wage Boards, the Regional Tripartire Wage Boards are working nonstop. They continuously monitor and study the actual pricing conditions in each region to ensure the appropriate wage rate or a wage increase is needed),” Marcos said.

The President noted that the wage board in the National Capital Region recently approved an ₱85 daily minimum wage increase for workers in Metro Manila, making NCR the region with the most wage adjustments in the last four years.

Marcos said other regions are expected to follow, although their wage adjustments may come later in the year.

“Ang susunod ay sa mga region pero matagal pa yan mga September, October pa yung iba (The other regions will follow, but that will take a while as it some ate expected sometime in September or October),” Marcos said.

He assured the public that the recommendations and decisions of the wage boards will be made public once available.

The RTWB approved an ₱85 per day increase in the minimum wage for NCR workers, to be implemented in two tranches: ₱60 starting July 19 and an additional ₱25 starting Jan. 20, 2027.

The adjustment will raise the daily minimum wage to ₱780 for non-agriculture workers and ₱743 for agriculture workers and those in retail or service establishments.
