Former Quezon City Rep. Michael Defensor and businessman Joseph Espiritu were committed to the Quezon City Jail in Payatas on Monday afternoon in connection with their non-bailable plunder case.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology spokesman Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera said Defensor and Espiritu were brought to the jail facility at 3:58 p.m.
Bustinera said the Quezon City Jail took custody of the two “pursuant to a commitment order issued by the Sandiganbayan Third Division for their non-bailable plunder case.”
“Both PDL (person deprived of liberty) have been processed and integrated into the general PDL population,” Bustinera said.
He said Defensor and Espiritu would not receive any preferential treatment while under BJMP custody.
“The BJMP assures that no special treatment will be given to any PDL under the Bureau’s custody,” Bustinera said.
