Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has directed all regional offices and support commands to step up enforcement against corrupt hiring practices following the arrest of two active-duty officers accused of extortion.
The directive comes after law enforcement personnel apprehended a police lieutenant, a patrolman, and three civilian accomplices in twin sting operations across Quezon City and San Fernando City, Pampanga last Saturday. The suspects allegedly demanded P150,000 from an applicant in exchange for guaranteed entry into the police service.
In response to the incident, Nartatez mandated strict oversight across all commands to eliminate illegal “slot-for-sale” arrangements and apprehend illicit fixers targeting applicants.
“We have instructed all regional offices and support units to strictly monitor recruitment activities and immediately act against fixers and slot-for-sale schemes,” said Nartatez. “Safeguards are in place to ensure that only qualified applicants enter the service.”
The police chief highlighted that crackdown operations against corrupt personnel are essential for upholding a merit-based selection process anchored on discipline and professional standards.
Addressing the issue directly during an official ceremony on Wednesday at Camp Crame, Nartatez administered the oath of office to 7,000 newly appointed patrolmen and patrolwomen.
“This new batch of 7,000 personnel represents a disciplined, integrity-driven police force,” said Nartatez. “We want the public to see officers who serve with honesty, competence and commitment to the Filipino people.”
