Police arrested former Quezon City Rep. Michael Defensor and businessman Joseph Espiritu, two co-accused of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta in a plunder case, authorities said Monday.
Interior Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla announced the arrests during a press briefing at Camp Crame.
The two were taken into custody hours after Marcoleta was arrested at the Sandiganbayan in connection with the same case.
Remulla said operatives of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested Defensor and Espiritu at a coffee shop in Quezon City.
Further details on the case and the next steps in the legal proceedings were not immediately disclosed.
