LTFRB Suspends Jeepney Driver After Student Falls From Moving Vehicle

  • July 3, 2026

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has suspended for 30 days a public utility jeepney driver after a student passenger was thrown from the vehicle due to alleged reckless driving.

The incident happened on June 23 along Aurora Avenue in Cubao, Quezon City, and was captured in a viral dashcam video. The footage showed the jeepney speeding and swerving several times before the student passenger fell out of the vehicle and landed in the middle of the road.

Aside from suspending the driver, the LTFRB issued a show-cause order to the operator of the jeepney with plate number APA-4905, directing the operator to explain why the vehicle’s franchise should not be suspended or revoked.

The agency cited violations, including failure to provide safe, reliable, and convenient public transportation service, as well as employing a reckless driver.

The LTFRB also ordered the operator to surrender the jeepney’s license plate. The driver was directed to undergo a mandatory drug test and road safety seminar, while the vehicle will be subjected to a roadworthiness inspection.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor Mendoza said public utility vehicle drivers must always prioritize passenger safety and must never treat public roads as racetracks.

A hearing on the case has been scheduled for July 14, 2026. The LTFRB said it will also determine whether the injured passenger received proper assistance after the incident.

The agency warned that failure to comply with the show-cause order may lead to a P5,000 fine and the revocation of the jeepney’s franchise.
