The crowd at the Iglesia ni Cristo “emergency rally” at the People Power Monument in Quezon City grew to around 10,000 as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, according to the Philippine National Police.

The PNP said 5,936 police personnel were deployed to secure the main rally site and three other areas where hundreds of INC members also gathered.

Three police officers were hurt, while two individuals were arrested. The PNP did not immediately provide further details.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police are closely monitoring the rally and have implemented security measures to protect participants, commuters, motorists, and the public.

Nartatez said the National Capital Region Police Office, national support units, and Camp Crame-based units have been placed on full alert due to the ongoing assembly.

“All personnel have been directed to maintain full operational readiness and perform their duties in accordance with established operational procedures,” Nartatez said.

He said police personnel on the ground were instructed to exercise maximum tolerance, remain impartial, uphold human rights, and act with professionalism and restraint.

Nartatez also urged protesters to keep the activity peaceful and orderly, while calling on the public to cooperate with authorities and follow traffic advisories in affected areas.

“The PNP remains committed to maintaining peace and order while safeguarding both public safety and the constitutional rights of every Filipino,” he said.
