PH Navy Participates in RIMPAC 2026, Conducts Multi-Domain Exercises with 30 Nations in Hawaiian Waters

The Philippine Navy officially joined the 30th iteration of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise on June 24, 2026, a global maritime drill that brings together the world’s top naval forces in one of the largest and most complex exercises of its kind.

The opening ceremony, held at the Ford Island Convention Center, and the evening reception at the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum, set the stage for weeks of intense multi-domain naval operations. RIMPAC’s guiding principles of warfighting readiness, environmental stewardship, and professionalism underpin the exercise, fostering operational excellence and trust among participating nations.

Representing the Philippines is Naval Task Group 84 aboard the guided missile frigate BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-6), led by Captain Ryan L. Bakabak PN(GSC) and Commanding Officer Captain Paul Michael P. Hechanova PN(GSC). Over the course of the exercise, they will operate alongside 30 allied and partner nations, coordinating maneuvers with more than 30 surface ships and five submarines in the waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands.

Participation in RIMPAC provides the Philippine Navy a platform to enhance interoperability, conduct realistic combat simulations, and engage in professional exchanges that strengthen partnerships and build lasting bonds with foreign counterparts.

Anchoring this year’s theme, “Partners: Integrated and Prepared,” the exercise highlights the Philippine Navy’s growing role as a credible and reliable maritime partner, committed to regional stability, security, and cooperative defense in the Indo-Pacific.

“This is more than a training exercise; it is an opportunity to demonstrate the Philippines’ capability, professionalism, and commitment to peace at sea alongside the world’s leading maritime forces,” said Captain Bakabak.

RIMPAC continues to serve as a global benchmark for naval excellence, providing participating countries with the chance to test their systems, refine strategies, and reinforce international maritime cooperation in an increasingly complex security environment.
