President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will make an official visit to Canada from July 1 to 4 to deepen the Philippines–Canada partnership and advance cooperation across strategic sectors.
The visit comes at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Joseph Carney. During the trip, Marcos and Carney are expected to hold bilateral talks on defense and security cooperation, trade and investment expansion, and collaboration on energy, critical minerals, and economic resilience. The discussions will also cover the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship and strategic regional priorities.
Canada has been an ASEAN Dialogue Partner since 1977 and established a Strategic Partnership with ASEAN in 2023. The visit marks the first official trip of a Philippine President to Canada in over a decade, following former President Benigno Aquino III’s visit in 2015, while former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last visited the Philippines in 2017.
A key focus of the trip will be promoting business and investment opportunities. President Marcos will meet with Canadian business leaders and investors in high-growth sectors critical to the Philippines’ economic agenda, including information technology, business process management, artificial intelligence, critical infrastructure, and minerals.
President Marcos, accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, will also engage with the Filipino community in Vancouver, British Columbia, recognizing the contributions of overseas Filipinos to both nations and the enduring ties between the Philippines and Canada.
The visit also commemorates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2024, highlighting a longstanding partnership rooted in shared values, peace and security in the Indo-Pacific, economic cooperation, and vibrant people-to-people connections.
