CIDG Conducts Crime Scene Reconstruction in Student-Athletes’ Drowning Case in Aurora

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), in coordination with other law enforcement and disaster response units, conducted a crime scene reconstruction early Monday in Dipaculao, Aurora to establish the circumstances surrounding a recent drowning incident in Barangay Libis.

The operation began at around 4:30 am on June 23, 2026, involving personnel from the CIDG Forensic Group, Aurora Police Provincial Office, Police Regional Office 3, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

Authorities said the reconstruction is aimed at determining critical physical and environmental factors at the time of the incident, including sea conditions, tide levels, and the precise location and movements of the victims.

Investigators measured the distance between the shoreline’s dry sand area and the waterline to assess tidal behavior during the reported timeframe. They also sought to pinpoint where the victims were last seen, using a combination of CCTV footage analysis and statements from witnesses, including coaches and players who were present in the area.

To strengthen the technical findings, the investigative team deployed sonar technology to map underwater terrain and depth, alongside a 3D scanning system to generate precise spatial data of the shoreline and surrounding area.

Authorities also reviewed how far offshore the victims were and the estimated depth of the water at the location where they were last observed.

As part of the probe, investigators are conducting a safety compliance audit of the beachfront area, focusing on the presence of warning signs and required emergency safety measures intended to alert the public of potential hazards.

The CIDG said the reconstruction forms part of a comprehensive fact-finding process to establish an accurate timeline and sequence of events leading to the drowning incident.

Officials assured that all available evidence—including scientific measurements, digital data, and witness accounts—are being carefully examined as the investigation continues.
