‘Walang Gutom Kitchen’ Reaches Cebu as Anti-Hunger Drive Expands

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the launch of a Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) “Walang Gutom Kitchen” program in Cebu City on Monday, expanding the government’s anti-hunger initiative to Visayas communities.

The Cebu facility is the second of its kind in the country, following the pilot kitchen in Pasay City, which began operations in December 2024 and continues to serve vulnerable sectors.

The President, joined by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, inspected the kitchen operations and assisted in the distribution of meals to beneficiaries.

The meals served included rice, pork humba, chop suey, egg drop soup, and mango for dessert, according to organizers.

DSWD Field Office VII official Carl James Ocubillo said the program provides free breakfast and lunch daily to identified beneficiaries as well as walk-in clients, with ingredients sourced from local markets.

He added that the agency also works with private partners, including hotels and restaurants, to secure food supplies and minimize food waste.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader effort to ensure food access for vulnerable communities nationwide.
