Guimaras Mangoes Reach Europe in First Direct Export Milestone

The Philippines has recorded its first direct export of premium Guimaras mangoes to Europe, marking a milestone for the country’s agricultural trade sector.

A 100-kilogram shipment from the Guimaras Wonders Farm in Jordan, Guimaras was routed through the Port of Iloilo before entering Europe via Belgium, with distribution set across Germany, France, Spain, and the Netherlands.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) facilitated the shipment’s clearance and movement through the Port of Iloilo, ensuring compliance with international export and food safety standards.

“This milestone shows what can be achieved when government, local producers, and the private sector work together to expand opportunities for Filipino products in the global market,” BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said.

He added that the successful shipment reflects improved coordination in export processing and adherence to international trade requirements.

The development highlights the growing capacity of local agricultural exporters to meet global quality standards, supported by coordination among government agencies, farmers, and logistics partners, including the Department of Trade and Industry.

Following the shipment, the Port of Iloilo is also exploring a proposed direct air cargo route to Hong Kong, with an initial target of up to 50 metric tons annually for fresh and processed mango exports.
