Antipolo Bishop Pays Tribute to Filipino Social Workers

Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Cruz Santos of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Antipolo has paid tribute to Filipino social workers, recognizing their tireless service to the country’s most vulnerable and underprivileged sectors.

In his reflection for the observance of Filipino Social Workers’ Day on June 19, Santos highlighted the essential role of social workers in bringing hope, assistance, and respect for the dignity of every person.

He said their mission reflects the Gospel teaching that every human being possesses inherent dignity, being created in the image and likeness of God.

The bishop stressed that, like Jesus Christ who reached out to those often neglected by society—the children, the sick, the suffering, and those in need—social workers continue to embody the spirit of compassion and service.

Santos likened social workers to the Good Samaritan, saying they do not turn away from people wounded by life’s hardships. Instead, they stop, listen, care, accompany, and help restore hope to those who have lost it.

He added that while their efforts may not always receive public recognition, every child protected, family assisted, victim comforted, and individual guided reflects the presence of Christ.

The bishop also encouraged Filipinos not only to pray for social workers but also to emulate their example of compassion and service to others.

Santos prayed that God would continue to bless social workers with strength, wisdom, courage, and joy as they carry out their mission.

Filipino Social Workers’ Day is observed every June 19 under Proclamation No. 1176, signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte, recognizing the vital contributions of social workers to nation-building and the country’s social protection programs.
