Man Faces Inquest For Damaging MMDA Traffic Light

  • May 31, 2026

An individual underwent inquest proceedings after allegedly damaging a traffic signal maintained by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

According to a police report, a concerned citizen alerted authorities in Barangay 707, Zone 77, Malate, Manila, regarding a man who reportedly threw an object at and damaged a traffic signal light located at the intersection of Quirino Avenue and Adriatico Street on May 29.

Authorities immediately investigated the report, leading to the suspect’s arrest. He was subsequently taken to the Roxas Boulevard Police Community Precinct (PCP) for processing.

The incident was also reported to the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center, which later filed the appropriate complaint against the suspect.

The damaged traffic signal equipment was estimated at ₱48,697.62. As a result, the suspect is facing a charge of malicious mischief, a criminal offense involving damage to property.

In response to the incident, MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes reminded the public that vandalizing government-owned facilities carries corresponding legal consequences.

The MMDA likewise emphasized the importance of protecting public infrastructure, noting that traffic management equipment plays a critical role in ensuring road safety and the orderly flow of vehicles and pedestrians throughout Metro Manila.
