The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group arrested Occidental Mindoro’s second most wanted person in connection with a carnapping case, authorities said.
The suspect was arrested by personnel of the Provincial Highway Patrol Team-Occidental Mindoro under the Regional Highway Patrol Unit-Mimaropa during an intelligence-driven operation in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, on June 9.
Police said the suspect, listed as the province’s No. 2 most wanted person, was arrested at around 5:30 p.m. along Ubas Road in Barangay Pag-asa.
The arrest was carried out based on a warrant issued by Judge Gregorio Prisno Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 45 in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
The suspect is facing a charge for violation of Republic Act 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, under Criminal Case No. R-26-12832.
The court recommended bail of P300,000 for the suspect’s temporary liberty.
The arrested individual is now under the custody of the Provincial Highway Patrol Team-Occidental Mindoro for documentation and proper disposition before turnover to the court of origin.
PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan commended the operating personnel for the successful implementation of the intelligence-driven operation.
“The arrest of wanted persons involved in motor vehicle-related crimes reflects our continuing commitment to ensuring that offenders are brought before the courts and held accountable under the law,” Batangan said.
