The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group arrested a wanted person facing a rape by sexual assault charge during a manhunt operation in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
The suspect was arrested by personnel of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit-Negros Island Region at around 2:50 p.m. on June 9 in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City.
Police said the arrest was made based on a warrant issued by Judge Conrado Aviles Estreller Jr. of the Family Court Branch 13 in Himamaylan City.
The suspect is facing a charge for rape by sexual assault under Article 266-A(2) of the Revised Penal Code, as amended by Republic Act 8353, in relation to Republic Act 7610, under Criminal Case No. 26-229-FC.
The court recommended bail of P200,000 for the suspect’s temporary liberty.
The arrested person is now under the custody of the Himamaylan City Component Police Office for documentation and proper disposition while the warrant is returned to the issuing court.
PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan commended the operating personnel for the successful manhunt operation.
“The arrest of wanted persons demonstrates the unwavering commitment of our police officers to uphold the rule of law and ensure that individuals facing criminal charges are brought before the courts through lawful and professional police operations,” Batangan said.
