AFP Intensifies Northern Luzon Sea Patrols Amid Security Push

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has sustained maritime patrol and surveillance operations in Northern Luzon while expanding cooperative activities with partner navies to strengthen maritime security and regional stability.

From May 1 to June 9, 2026, the Northern Luzon Command, through the Northern Luzon Naval Command, carried out 42 maritime patrol and air surveillance missions within its area of responsibility.

The operations included 35 maritime patrols and seven air surveillance missions, which the AFP said helped maintain regular monitoring of key maritime areas and improve maritime domain awareness in Northern Luzon.

The military said the missions also supported efforts to deter unlawful activities at sea and protect the country’s sovereign rights and maritime jurisdiction.

Alongside the patrol and surveillance operations, the Philippine Navy conducted six maritime cooperative activities within Philippine waters with partner navies.

These included three bilateral and three multilateral activities aimed at strengthening interoperability, coordination, and operational readiness among participating forces.

The AFP said the engagements allowed the Philippines and its partners to conduct coordinated maritime operations, share best practices, and improve communication and command-and-control procedures.

The military said the activities form part of continuing efforts to address shared maritime security challenges while promoting cooperation with regional and international partners.

The AFP said it remains committed to defending the country’s sovereignty and sovereign rights, while deepening defense cooperation in support of national and regional security.
