President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday inaugurated the first phase of the MTerra Solar Project in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija, marking a major step in the Philippines’ transition toward renewable energy and a more reliable electricity supply.

Developed by Terra Solar Philippines Inc., a joint venture between SP New Energy Corporation and Actis, the project will cover five municipalities across Nueva Ecija and Bulacan once fully completed.

Phase 1 has energized 1,373 megawatts of solar photovoltaic capacity and 825 megawatts of battery energy storage, making it the world’s largest operational integrated solar and battery facility located on a single site.

The facility is expected to supply clean electricity to approximately 2.4 million households nationwide and generate more than 10,000 jobs.

It is also projected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 4.3 million metric tons annually.

The inauguration highlighted the administration’s efforts to accelerate the country’s renewable energy transition, improve energy security and support sustainable economic growth through large-scale investments in clean energy.

Marcos reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding renewable energy sources and ensuring a more stable and dependable power supply for Filipino households.
