MMDA Clears Manila Drainage Lines To Prevent Rainy Season Flooding

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) continues to conduct drainage declogging operations across Metro Manila as part of its efforts to prevent flooding and ensure the unhampered flow of water during the rainy season.

According to the MMDA, its Flood Control Team remains actively engaged in clearing drainage systems even during fair weather conditions to prevent blockages caused by accumulated waste and debris.

In Manila, the team recently completed the declogging of drainage facilities along the intersection of UN Avenue and M.H. del Pilar Street, where approximately 0.5 cubic meters of waste were removed.

The agency is also carrying out drainage cleanup operations along Quirino Avenue, from Angel Linao Street to Pedro Gil Street, covering a stretch of about 40 linear meters.

The MMDA emphasized that regular declogging activities are essential in maintaining proper water flow and minimizing the risk of flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The agency also called on the public to support flood prevention efforts by properly disposing of waste and refraining from throwing garbage into drainage systems, canals, and esteros, which contribute to flooding when clogged.
