Arrested contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya was transferred on Monday to the Bulacan Provincial Jail following court proceedings on graft and malversation charges linked to the flood control controversy.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla led the transfer after arriving at the Bulacan Regional Trial Court ahead of Discaya and his legal team. Judge Mirasol Ong Dychingco of RTC Branch 20 presided over the hearing involving Discaya and 10 other accused individuals.
The charges against Discaya are non-bailable. Remulla said nine of the 11 accused have already been arrested, while authorities are still conducting a manhunt for the two others who remain at large.
The DILG said the transfer was meant to show that Discaya would be treated like any other person deprived of liberty and would not be given VIP treatment while in detention.
Discaya’s lawyer, Cornelio Samaniego, said the defense will pursue all available legal remedies to seek bail for his client.
