The Philippine National Police (PNP) released Thursday the mugshots of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan and their three co-accused in a plunder case.
The PNP blurred the faces of the accused in the photos, which were taken last Monday.
Estrada’s mugshot showed a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group detainee shirt placed over his white clothes instead of being worn.
CIDG-National Capital Region chief Col. John Guiagui said the shirt was placed in front of Estrada because none of the available detainee shirts fit him.
“No CIDG shirts fit him. We tried all the clothes that were available, but they didn’t fit given his body’s build,” Guiagui said.
He said the largest available shirt was XXL, but it could not be pulled down from Estrada’s shoulder.
Due to the urgency of bringing Estrada before the Sandiganbayan later that day, police decided to place the detainee shirt over his clothes for the mugshot.
Meanwhile, Guiagui said Bonoan was not brought to the Sandiganbayan on Thursday for his scheduled arraignment due to medical reasons.
The CIDG had earlier informed the Sandiganbayan that Bonoan could not attend the proceedings.
“It was due to medical reasons. I think there is a blockage in his heart and his blood pressure is still elevated,” Guiagui said.
Bonoan was brought to a private hospital in Metro Manila on Tuesday night and remains under CIDG watch.
“I’m not going to say how many are guarding Bonoan, but he is under our watch 24/7, round the clock,” Guiagui said.
