The Philippine National Police (PNP) has served another arrest warrant on Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, former public works secretary Manuel Bonoan and their three co-accused in connection with a graft case before the Sandiganbayan.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the warrant was issued by the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division last Monday, with a recommended bail of P90,000.
The five accused are also facing a plunder case before the same division.
Nartatez said the warrant was served on Bonoan, who is confined at a private hospital in Metro Manila, on Thursday.
He said the service of the warrant was done “in accordance with applicable legal procedures governing the service of warrants on persons under medical confinement.”
The same warrant was served on Estrada and the three other accused on Wednesday at the Quezon City Jail, where they are detained.
“Proper coordination was made with the concerned custodial authorities to ensure orderly and lawful service of the court process,” Nartatez said.
The PNP said all actions were carried out in accordance with court procedures and with respect for the constitutional rights of the accused.
“The PNP emphasizes that all actions undertaken were carried out strictly in line with existing rules of procedure and with full respect for constitutional rights, ensuring that court directives are executed in a lawful, orderly, and professional manner,” Nartatez said.
