The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has sustained its drainage-clearing operations in several parts of Metro Manila as part of continuing efforts to reduce flooding during the rainy season.
The MMDA said its flood prevention services remain operational regardless of weather conditions.
Personnel from the MMDA Flood Control Team, assisted by beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment’s TUPAD program, carried out declogging and drainage maintenance activities in Manila, Malabon and Quezon City to improve water flow and lower the risk of flooding.
In Paco, Manila, workers cleared around 200 linear meters of drainage along Angel Linao Street, from Apacible Street to Escoda Street. A vacuum truck and dump truck were deployed during the operation, which removed approximately 2.5 cubic meters of accumulated garbage and silt.
In Malabon City, personnel cleaned about 80 linear meters of drainage along Gov. Pascual Avenue in Barangays Acacia and Catmon. An estimated 1.3 cubic meters of waste was collected from the area.
The team also cleared approximately 30 linear meters of drainage inlets along Commonwealth Avenue near Bitoon Circle in Quezon City. About 0.50 cubic meters of debris was removed to allow rainwater to pass through the drainage system more efficiently.
The MMDA reiterated that proper waste disposal is crucial to preventing drainage systems from becoming clogged and minimizing flooding.
It urged residents to dispose of their garbage responsibly and help keep waterways clear, particularly during the rainy season.
