Ex-DPWH Chief Bonoan Transferred to Private Hospital

Former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan has been transferred from the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital to a private hospital for specialized medical care, the Philippine National Police said Wednesday.

PNP Public Information Office chief Col. Allen Rae Co said Bonoan was moved on Tuesday night after laboratory results showed an elevated heart enzyme, raising concern over a possible heart condition.

Bonoan surrendered to police at Camp Crame on Monday after the Sandiganbayan ordered his arrest, along with four co-accused, in connection with a plunder case.

He was initially brought to the PNP General Hospital after experiencing high blood pressure.

Co said Bonoan had been medically cleared for transport to the Sandiganbayan on Tuesday afternoon, but subsequent test results prompted doctors to recommend further evaluation by a heart specialist.

“In view of these findings and considering his age and underlying hypertension, the report states that he was transferred in stable condition on the evening of June 2, 2026 to a private hospital for continued management and specialized care,” Co said.

The PNP said the transfer was made because the PNP General Hospital does not have the equipment needed for the specialized tests and care required by Bonoan’s condition.

Co said Bonoan will remain under the custody and guard of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group while confined at the private hospital.
