A possible state visit by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to Japan next month is currently under consideration following an invitation from the Japanese government.
“Nothing is confirmed. We are still considering the invite,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a message to reporters.
If the visit proceeds, President Marcos is expected to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to discuss cooperation on a free and open Indo-Pacific and coordinate responses to China’s maritime activities.
The trip, if finalized, would be Marcos’ fourth visit to Japan since taking office in 2022. His previous engagements include an official visit in February 2023, participation in the ASEAN–Japan Friendship and Cooperation Commemorative Summit in December 2023, and a working visit in June 2025.
