The 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division marked the 128th Philippine Independence Day on June 12, 2026 by emphasizing national unity, patriotism, and the ongoing role of the military in safeguarding the country’s freedom.

Maj. Gen. Leonardo Peña, Commander of the 11th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Orion, led the Independence Day observance at the Jolo Municipal Grounds alongside Mayor Edzir Tan, local officials, uniformed personnel, and community stakeholders. The event honored the sacrifices of the nation’s forebears while reaffirming the shared responsibility of Filipinos to uphold liberty and peace.

Peña stressed that Independence Day serves as a reminder of the courage of the country’s heroes and called on citizens to remain united in protecting the freedoms they fought to achieve.

Simultaneously, the division conducted a nationwide flag-raising ceremony at its headquarters in Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista, Barangay Busbus, Jolo. Col. Wilfredo Borgonia Jr., Division Inspector General, delivered the message of Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, urging soldiers to serve with honor, integrity, and dedication.

Col. Rommil Abayon, Assistant Division Commander for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, conveyed a message from AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., highlighting the enduring importance of patriotism and the defense of the nation’s sovereignty.

Through these ceremonies, the 11th Infantry Division reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the Philippines’ territorial integrity, maintaining peace and security, and serving the Filipino people with honor and excellence, carrying forward the legacy of past heroes while inspiring future generations.
