PCG Saves Man Who Nearly Drowned in Roxas, Palawan

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) revived a 36-year-old man who nearly drowned along the shoreline of Purok Seaside in Barangay IV, Roxas, Palawan on June 28, in a rescue that highlighted the value of rapid emergency response in coastal communities.

The PCG said two children reported the incident to authorities, prompting responders to immediately proceed to the area while coordinating with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for ambulance support.

Upon arrival, Coast Guard personnel found the victim unconscious and immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The CPR intervention allowed the victim to expel water, regain consciousness, and recover his pulse, according to the PCG. He was later transported to the nearest hospital for further medical treatment.

The agency said the rescue underscores the importance of its Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement Program, or iCARE, which strengthens the emergency response capability of PCG personnel through Basic Life Support training conducted by the Coast Guard Nursing Service.

Through the program, PCG responders are trained to provide immediate lifesaving intervention during drowning incidents and other emergencies, particularly in coastal areas where response time can determine survival.

The PCG said it remains committed to protecting lives at sea and in coastal communities through preparedness, professionalism, and public service.
