Visa, GCash Enable Card-Funded QR Payments

Visa and GCash have partnered to introduce a new payment feature that allows users to fund QR code transactions with eligible Visa cards linked to the GCash app.

The new feature gives consumers greater flexibility by enabling them to pay directly with their linked Visa cards at merchants that accept GCash QR payments, without first adding funds to their GCash wallets.

Previously, users with insufficient wallet balances had to top up through linked bank accounts or transfer money from other financial institutions before completing a purchase. With the new system, payments can be charged directly to an eligible Visa card at checkout, making transactions faster and more convenient.

Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro said the partnership responds to growing consumer demand for more flexible and seamless payment options.

“Consumers increasingly expect flexibility in how they pay, and are looking for payment experiences that are simple, secure, and seamless. This exciting collaboration expands that flexibility for consumers, allowing consumers to use their Visa credentials across everyday digital payment journeys including QR payments,” Navarro said.

He added that the initiative marks another step toward making digital payments more accessible and convenient.

G-Xchange Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Ren-Ren Reyes said the feature provides millions of GCash users with greater flexibility in managing their payments and finances.

“This new feature further enhances the GCash experience for millions of Filipinos, giving them greater freedom in how they pay and manage their funds while maintaining the experience they’ve come to expect from GCash,” Reyes said.

He added that the partnership reinforces the companies’ shared goal of expanding financial inclusion and accelerating the country’s shift toward a digital economy.

Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showed that digital transactions accounted for 57.4 percent of the country’s total monthly retail payment volume.

Visa and GCash said the introduction of card-funded QR payments is expected to further accelerate digital payment adoption by expanding consumers’ payment options while supporting broader financial inclusion in the Philippines.
