The local government of the City of Valenzuela recently launched its annual reading camp program to assist learners in need of reading intervention and improve literacy and learning recovery among students of the cIty.
Mayor Wes Gatchalian led the kick-off ceremony of the Valenzuela Reading Camp last May 20 at the Malinta Elementary School, and presented the 75 volunteer-teachers from various public schools in the city and the 150 student-volunteers from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela (PLV) who will participate in the program.

Also present at the launch were members of the City Council, Educ 360 Action Officer Councilor Lorie Natividad-Borja, Schools Division Office Superintendent Noel Bagano, teachers, parents, and students who gathered in support of the city’s continuing literacy and learning recovery initiatives.

The 10-day Valenzuela Reading Camp officially began on May 18 and will run until May 29, 2026. Each student participant will receive free worktexts and additional incentives upon completion of the program.

The Valenzuela Reading Camp program, implemented in partnership with Synergeia Foundation, is one of the major components of the city’s multi-awarded Education 360 Degrees Investment Program. Based on recent data, the number of frustrated and non-reader students decreased from 1,548 in 2025 to 1,200 instructional bottomline students this year.
The program has already benefited more than 95,479 students since its inception in 2014.
