Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) MIMAROPA Regional Office arrested two individuals in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro for the alleged sale of unregistered chainsaws in violation of environmental regulations.
The operation stemmed from an intelligence report received in April 2026 regarding an unlicensed shop allegedly selling portable power tools without the required government permits. Undercover agents later conducted a test-buy operation, which confirmed the illegal sale to walk-in customers.
Follow-up verification with environmental authorities showed that the establishment had no authorization to distribute chainsaws. The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) also reported that only one licensed chainsaw dealer is permitted to operate in the province.
A search warrant issued by RTC Branch 42 in Pinamalayan was served on June 9, 2026, leading to the confiscation of three high-powered chainsaws during the operation.
The two suspects were arrested on-site and brought to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings.
NBI Director Melvin A. Matibag said the operation is part of the bureau’s intensified campaign to enforce environmental protection laws and curb illegal logging activities. He added that the operation involved coordination among multiple government agencies to safeguard forest resources.
