Two Filipino seafarers injured in a drone strike on the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Gas Lisbon have safely returned to the Philippines after the vessel was attacked while transiting the Black Sea.
The seafarers arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on August 3 aboard Qatar Airways Flight QR932.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) provided airport and financial assistance to the seafarers upon their arrival.
Their licensed manning agency, Alpha Pearl of the Orient Maritime, Inc., facilitated their repatriation and arranged for their hospitalization and continuing medical care.
The DMW also instructed the manning agency to ensure that the seafarers undergo the necessary physical and psychological examinations, as well as debriefing sessions, to support their recovery.
In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive, the DMW reminded all licensed manning agencies and their accredited principals to strictly observe safety measures and established protocols for vessels carrying Filipino seafarers through the Black Sea.
The agency said it will continue coordinating with the manning agency to monitor the condition of the two seafarers and ensure that they receive the required medical treatment and assistance.
