Suspected WWII-Era Bombs Found at Olongapo Construction Site

Construction work at a gasoline station project in Olongapo City was suspended after workers unearthed several suspected World War II-era bombs during excavation on Monday morning.

The suspected explosives were discovered at the project site in Barangay New Cabalan, prompting workers to immediately report the matter to local authorities.

Barangay New Cabalan Purok Leader Bimbo Manarang said the items were found while workers were digging in the area.

Police and explosive ordnance disposal personnel later inspected the site to determine the type, condition, and possible danger posed by the recovered items.

Initial information showed that several pieces of old explosive ordnance were recovered, although authorities have yet to determine whether the items remain active or hazardous.

As a precaution, authorities cordoned off the area and temporarily halted construction activities while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit conducted its assessment.

Residents and workers were advised to stay away from the site while the inspection was ongoing.

Authorities also reminded the public not to touch, move, or approach any suspicious object that may resemble a bomb, shell, or other military ordnance.

They urged residents to immediately report similar discoveries to the police or local officials to prevent possible accidents.
