Senator Pia Cayetano welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, saying it is a positive development not only for the region but also for ordinary Filipinos affected by months of volatility in global oil markets.
The senator said the deal could help ease pressure on fuel prices, which have been a key driver of higher costs at the pump in recent months.
“As the former Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Energy, I have consistently pushed for policies that protect Filipino consumers from the swings of international oil markets, and for greater transparency in how local pump prices respond to global price movements. This is a moment where that vigilance matters most,” she said.
Cayetano also urged the Department of Energy (DOE) to closely monitor the situation and ensure that any decline in global oil prices is quickly reflected in domestic pump prices.
“I am urging the Department of Energy to monitor this development closely and ensure that any decrease in global oil prices is reflected promptly and fully in local pump prices. Filipinos should not have to wait longer to feel relief than they did to feel the increase,” she said.
