The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it has not received any directive or arrest warrant related to a sitting senator linked to an ongoing flood control-related case, stressing that its actions are strictly based on court orders.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. clarified that the police organization has not issued or received any “special operational directive” involving the case, following public remarks suggesting a possible arrest in the coming days.
Authorities emphasized that no official legal order has been transmitted to law enforcement for implementation.
“As of now, there is no special operational directive, and we do not act on rumors or unverified information,” the PNP chief said.
The clarification came after reports and statements indicating that legal developments could lead to the issuance of a warrant against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta in connection with cases involving alleged irregularities in flood control projects and campaign-related funds.
Court records show that the Sandiganbayan has issued a precautionary hold departure order against Marcoleta, former Quezon City Rep. Michael Defensor and businessmen Joseph Espiritu, and Aristotle Viray in connection with a plunder and indirect bribery complaint tied to alleged campaign donations during the 2025 elections. Despite this, the PNP stressed that any enforcement action will only proceed upon receipt of a valid warrant issued by a competent court.
“We act only on legal orders and in accordance with the rule of law,” the PNP chief said, adding that the organization remains apolitical and procedural in its operations.
A police spokesperson also confirmed that no arrest warrant has been received so far.
“Once a warrant is officially transmitted, it will be implemented accordingly,” the official said.
