The Philippine National Police (PNP) has stepped up its nationwide campaign against cybercrime and misinformation amid continuing reports of false online advisories, misleading social media posts, and other digital content that have caused confusion and public concern in several areas of the country.
The initiative coincides with the opening of classes nationwide, a period when students, parents, and teachers increasingly rely on digital platforms for announcements and coordination. Authorities warned that this environment heightens vulnerability to deceptive posts, particularly fabricated school announcements, security alerts, and other misleading advisories that quickly circulate through social media and messaging applications.
Under the leadership of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the PNP through its Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) has sustained both enforcement actions and preventive information campaigns, including cybercrime prevention and digital safety lectures conducted by regional units across the country.
In Nueva Ecija, the PNP ACG Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 3 (RACU 3) conducted a Cybercrime Prevention and Awareness Lecture on June 10, 2026, at San Isidro Integrated School in Barangay San Isidro, Cabanatuan City, where junior high school students and faculty were oriented on identifying cyber threats and practicing safe internet use.
On the same day in Butuan City, RACU 13 held a Digital Literacy and Cybercrime Awareness Lecture at Bit-os Elementary School, Purok 1, Barangay Bit-os, Agusan del Norte, focusing on responsible digital citizenship and protection of children from online risks, including safe use of social media platforms.
Meanwhile, in Negros Oriental, the Negros Oriental Cyber Response Team (NOCRT) joined the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Serbisyo Caravan on June 13, 2026, in Manjuyod, where cybercrime awareness sessions were integrated into activities marking World Day Against Child Labor, reinforcing online safety for children and youth participants.
The PNP ACG also formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Vicente Andaya Senior National High School in Sigma, Capiz, on June 9, 2026. The agreement covers strengthened cybersecurity education, the establishment of a Cyber Warriors Club, and structured awareness activities for students and faculty.
PNP Chief Police General Nartatez stressed that the initiatives reflect the organization’s commitment to addressing cyber threats not only through enforcement but also through education.
“Malaya po tayong magpahayag, pero kapag ito ay nagdudulot ng takot, kalituhan, o maling alarma sa publiko, lalo na sa social media, ito ay may kaakibat na pananagutan. The PNP will continue to run after those who deliberately spread false information online,” Nartatez said.
He added that the PNP continues to monitor cybercrime cases such as online scams, identity theft, phishing schemes, and the spread of fabricated announcements that tend to escalate during sensitive periods such as school openings. “Kaya mahalaga ang pagiging responsable sa pagpo-post at pag-share ng impormasyon,” he said.
The campaign forms part of the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, where cybersecurity and information integrity are now treated as operational priorities. It also aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen public safety by addressing emerging threats in both physical and digital spaces.
The PNP reiterated that combating cybercrime and misinformation is a shared responsibility, urging the public to verify information before sharing it online, particularly as the school year begins and digital communication activity increases nationwide.
