Preparations for the Philippines’ hosting of high-level ASEAN defense engagements in 2026 are progressing as the Department of National Defense (DND) convened the latest Ad Hoc ASEAN Defense Senior Officials’ Meeting Working Group (ADSOM WG).
Held via video conference on July 16, 2026, the meeting brought together defense officials from ASEAN member states and was presided over by DND Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Marita I. Yoro, in her capacity as ADSOM WG Chair.
Discussions centered on the progress of regional defense initiatives under the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus framework, including the review of outcome documents and key deliverables expected to be released this year.
The ADSOM WG also discussed ongoing ASEAN defense cooperation efforts with partner countries and their implications for regional peace, security, and stability.
Other matters related to the upcoming ASEAN defense engagements were also tackled as member states continued coordination ahead of the Philippines’ hosting responsibilities in 2026.
The DND said the meeting underscored the continued commitment of ASEAN defense officials to strengthening regional cooperation and addressing shared security challenges.
