The Philippine Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy reaffirmed their strong maritime partnership as senior naval leaders met at the Philippine Navy Headquarters on June 22 to discuss areas of mutual cooperation and regional security.

The visit of Royal Brunei Navy Commander First Admiral Sahibul Bin Haji Zainal Abidin highlighted the enduring defense ties between the Philippines and Brunei, built on decades of diplomatic and military engagement.

Philippine Navy Flag Officer In Command Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta welcomed the Bruneian naval chief and underscored the significance of the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

According to Ezpeleta, the visit reflects the strong and evolving partnership that has connected the Philippines and Brunei for more than 40 years, fostering cooperation across various areas of mutual interest.

During their meeting, both leaders exchanged views on strengthening naval collaboration and expanding opportunities for future engagements aimed at enhancing interoperability and institutional ties between their respective maritime forces.

The discussions also emphasized the shared commitment of the Philippines and Brunei to promoting peace, security, and stability in Southeast Asia through sustained defense cooperation and regular exchanges between their navies.

Ezpeleta expressed optimism about pursuing additional joint initiatives with the Royal Brunei Navy, noting that continued collaboration would further reinforce common maritime objectives and strengthen regional partnerships.

The Philippine Navy said the visit serves as another step toward deepening mutual trust and advancing cooperative efforts with friendly nations, while supporting its mission of protecting the country’s maritime interests and contributing to a secure and prosperous region.
