PH Navy Hunts Simulated Enemy Submarine in RIMPAC Drill

The Philippine Navy joined Singaporean and United States forces in a five-hour anti-submarine warfare exercise during the Force Integration Training phase of the Rim of the Pacific Exercise on July 11.

The BRP Miguel Malvar and the Republic of Singapore Navy frigate RSS Steadfast led the drill, alongside the US Navy destroyer USS Paul Hamilton and a P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.

The participating ships and aircraft practiced detecting, locating, tracking and attacking a submarine represented by the nuclear-powered USS Charlotte.

During the exercise, the USS Charlotte carried out simulated evasive maneuvers and counterattacks against the surface vessels.

The training also required the participating units to share tracking data and establish a common operational picture.

The Philippine Navy said the drill tested basic-to-intermediate anti-submarine warfare skills and helped improve coordination among the participating forces.

The exercise was also intended to refine tactics and strengthen interoperability with partner navies as the Philippines expands its maritime defense capabilities.
