The Philippine Navy contingent aboard BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-6) has arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii ahead of its participation in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2026, one of the world’s largest multinational maritime drills.
The Naval Task Group 84, led by Capt. Ryan Bakabak PN(GSC), reached the US naval facility on June 21, 2026, marking the formal start of the Philippine Navy’s engagement in the large-scale exercise aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation among allied and partner nations.
Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by officials of the Philippine Consulate General in Hawaii, headed by Consul General Arman Talbo, alongside members of the Filipino community.
RIMPAC brings together naval forces from multiple countries to enhance interoperability, deepen defense partnerships, and support regional maritime stability through joint training operations.
In a message of support, Talbo assured the contingent of backing from Filipinos in Hawaii, underscoring national pride in the Navy’s participation.
Capt. Bakabak, for his part, said the deployment reflects the professionalism and resolve of the Philippine Navy, stressing that the vessel represents not only the armed forces but the broader Filipino nation.
He described the BRP Miguel Malvar as a symbol of “national aspirations” and growing maritime capability, adding that it carries the “hopes and pride of Filipinos around the world.”
The Navy said its participation in RIMPAC underscores its continued commitment to building a capable, adaptive, and mission-ready force while expanding cooperation with international partners in safeguarding maritime security.
